Private Invitation’s Oil Massage Candle Review: Making Self-Care Sensual

Sharing is caring!

Have you ever walked past a sex store and just felt…violated in a way? A space that is supposed to be inclusive and open suddenly feels intimidating, and the cashier, who looks like they have a record of looking at people without their consent, is not helping.

Well, Private Invitation (PI) is built different. From their foundation of principles that free people from the over-sexualization and intimidation that is the sex industry all the way to the packaging, Private Invitation makes sex aesthetically pleasing.

And today, we get to review one of their products: the Oil Massage Candle.

Product Spotlight: Sacred Sandalwood Oil Massage Candle

Have you ever heard of an oil massage candle?

Because I haven’t.

The closest thing I’ve seen to using a candle during sex was when I watched The Wolf of Street at 13. A prostitute poured hot candle wax on Leonardo DiCaprio while he was tied up (don’t worry, my parents were there supervising).

So, I was definitely curious about the product when I received it. I kept wondering, “Where do I pour it? How do I use this? Where can it and cannot go?”

But after reviewing this product and using it a few times, I can answer all your burning questions.

The Packaging

I know it’s not customary to review the packaging, but it’s something not to skip over, and Private Invitation doesn’t! Unlike other sexual wellness companies, PI actually labels its box with its branding. Most companies send plain boxes, so nobody is the wiser, but PI wants the buyer to know that there is nothing wrong with a bit of sex… I meant self-care.

Neatly packed with a thank-you card and a sticker to match, PI has the branding down to a T, showing their customers that they deserve a luxurious experience from the get-go.

The Oil Massage Candle

There is not much to say about the presentation of the candle because it’s beautifully crafted. In an amber glass to compliment the flick of the fire, the candle evokes a feeling of richness.

The top twists off easily to expose a perfectly laid candle with a strong sandalwood aroma.

Naked Ingredients

Unlike your local Bed, Bath, and Beyond candles, PI’sPI’s candle goes above and beyond the FDA standard. As consumers in the US, we know that greenwashing runs rampant in products these days. Saying something is “all-natural” has lost all its meaning, so when PI says this oil massage candle is all-natural, what exactly does that mean?

Well, it means that their oil massage candle is free from things that have been found to harm you. This candle is made of soy wax, organic sunflower oil, and a blend of essential oils. Basically its:

  • Cruelty-Free
  • Paraben Free
  • Paraffin Free
  • Phthalate Free
  • Non-GMO

So this candle is not only good for your sexual health but also your physical health. Now that I’ve covered the branding and the ingredients let’s see if the candle is actually good or just for display because it’s aesthetically pleasing.

Personal Impressions

I know it may seem that I am in love with the brand, which might make it hard for me to be unbiased, but trust me, that is not the case. When trying this oil massage candle, I wanted to answer the question: Is this actually any good? Does the oil leave a greasy film on top of the skin that just gets everywhere? Is the candle messy? Where do I pour the oil? Does it burn?

So I lit it and did some research.

Let There Be Light

As the strong sandalwood scent filled the air, I hate to say it, but I was instantly relaxed. The candle began to work its magic, and not only was I feeling relaxed, but I was also somehow getting turned on. So, it worked like an aphrodisiac.

I wasn’t getting turned on in the animalistic kinda way of wanting to f**k someone but in the way where I wanted to enjoy every step of being intimate with someone.

So horny, but a delicate kind of horny where I want to make love to someone instead of a quickie.

Lighting the candle for the first time took a few tries, but once I got it to light, it stayed lit with an intense flame. As the candle burned, an even pool of melted oil was created, and after about 10 minutes, I had enough wax to try my first pour.

From what I found on the company’s social media, you pour the oil directly onto your skin, and there is no need to worry about being burned because the oil doesn’t get hot enough to burn you. And for those wondering, it’s external use only.

Nevertheless, I was still nervous to pour a hot candle onto my skin, so I just dipped my finger into the oil. To my surprise, I was not burned, nor was there any wax built up on the tip of my finger like a regular candle. Feeling slightly more confident, I took a deep breath and poured the candle’s oil directly onto my forearm.

The Pros of the Oil Massage Candle

Even before lighting the candle, you can smell it; once lit, it smells stronger and evokes a relaxing sensation. It melts quickly, so you don’t need to wait long to use the oil.

I waited about 10 minutes before pouring the oil, which was warm but not hot; it ran easily and uniformly, but that wasn’t the best part. The best part was the oil itself. I was emotionally prepared for an oily kind of oil. You know the type. The oil that gets everywhere and leaves grease stains on your clothes no matter how many times you wash it.

But this oil was almost like a dry oil. It feels smooth as you pour it on your skin, but it’s not a greasy feeling. After about 20 minutes, it absorbs into your skin, leaving a moisturized, hydrated feeling with the faintest scent of the sandalwood.

The Cons of the Candle

Like everything in the world, the candle is not perfect. For instance, the candle wick turns black once lit. So when you go to light it the second or third time, be prepared to deal with some black smoke coming from the candle along with extinguishing it. Moreover, like with some candles, little pieces of the wick come off and fall into the oil, so beware when pouring it on someone and then massaging it in. There might be a surprise on there that they weren’t expecting.

And lastly, the glass structure of the candle is not optimal for pouring, so expect a little bit of a drip to be on the side of the candle but nothing too crazy.

Overall, the candle left me pleasantly surprised. Despite its few faults, its aphrodisiacal capabilities and warm oil were sensual experiences that left me hoping to meet someone with whom I share the experience.

Tips for Optimal Use and Safety

We all know about fire safety and the proper way to handle a candle, but let’s do a quick review, shall we?

  1. Put the oil massage candle on a heat-resistant surface so it doesn’t melt whatever is under it
  2. Keep it away from flammable materials such as curtains, lingerie, or underwear.
  3. Blow out the candle when you are done using it or if it’s been more than 4 hours.

Now that we’ve covered that let’s talk about how to get the most out of the candle.

First, let the candle burn for at least 10 minutes to get a good pour. If you let the candle burn longer, ensure it is in a room with good ventilation or lots of space because the smell, while delicious, is strong (a sign of a good candle).

Second, you can leave the candle burning while using it. The oil won’t be too hot when you are pouring it. But you should blow it out the minute you are done (fire safety 101).

Third, make sure nobody is allergic to the ingredients. Luckily, all the ingredients are on the label.

Fourth, have a towel on hand. Like with anything involving fluids, it can get messy.

My fifth and final tip is to trim the wick. Doing this can help reduce the amount of residue candles produce while burning. So less black smoke, more essential oil delightfulness.

Final Thoughts: Sacred Sandalwood Oil Massage Candle

When I wrote this blog post, I thought about the oil massage candle from the perspective of sex and how to use it with someone to elevate your sex routine and add another layer of intimacy and sensuality. But the candle is much more than sex, like the brand itself.

It’s self-care reformulated. It can accompany you in the bathtub or while you snuggle up with a good book; this candle provides the perfect ambiance for anything that makes you feel good.

While it’s not a necessity, it’s a small luxury everyone should make room for in their budget.
